Mono Nordic Trail Run

A long time Mono Nordic Ski Club racer, Alexander Maycock, recently brought forth the idea to host a Mono Nordic trail running race at Park. As a ski racer at Mono Nordic for over 8 years, the 18 year old has had the privilege of racing all across North America and parts of Europe, including Austria and Switzerland.Alexander This past winter, he reached a big goal by earning a Canadian National Championship gold medal in the team sprint event at the 2018 Canadian Ski Nationals
in Thunder Bay. In addition to his early University ski racing success, he represented Orangeville District Secondary School earning two OFSAA Championship titles.

Alexander has big goals ahead of him including to represent Canada at the FISU World University Games in March of 2019 in Russia and 2021 in Switzerland. He has goals of representing Canada at the World Junior Championships and World Under 23 Championships to eventually ski for Canada on the World Cup Circuit and at the Olympics in 2022, 2026 and 2030. Alexander has dedicated about 8 years of consistent training to Nordic skiing, and this year he has plans to train over 650 hours in order to work towards his ambitious, yet achievable goals. The cost of this training will be significant. His 2018-2019 ski year will cost him over $10, 000.

The Town Council supports Alexander Maycock’s ambitions to be named to Canada’s Olympic Team and have waived the $216 rental fee for the Monora Park multipurpose room. The $95 rental fee for the Monora Park grounds has also been waived for the purpose of holding the “Mono Nordic Trail Run.” The "Mono Nordic Trail Race" is a fundraising event to support Alexander Maycock and will take place on Saturday, August 4, 2018.
